About the event

The first of its kind for Ontario, the North East Scarborough Recreation, Childcare, and Aquatic Centre is targeting Net Zero Energy and Emissions and pursuing CaGBC Zero Carbon Building certification. The process incorporates whole lifecycle carbon thinking by including embodied carbon analysis which also set targets for reductions. During the early design stages, a Net Zero feasibility study analyzed a variety of active, passive, and renewable strategies that could help reduce operational energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as reviewed material selections towards embodied carbon quantification and reductions. This presentation will share the whole lifecycle carbon approach, as well as the City of Toronto initiatives and thinking process which led to the impressive aspirations for this project.
